Choosing a funeral home
Death can come suddenly or be expected. Anyone who has had a loved one pass away knows that your emotions are in knots. This is why we recommend to our customers that they find a trusted friend who can help with arrangements. Sometimes a minister or social worker can help. Planning a funeral is a business transaction, and it helps to have someone on your side. Usually, its easier to call on the phone and get prices rather than go in. Its less pressure. Before you do anything, be familiar with the laws. It will only take about 15 minutes to arm yourself. Go to the Federal Trade Commission site and read "Funerals, a consumer guide" or call us, we have the booklet available. Its free! Being in the business, we can give you a broad overview of funeral homes in the area and aid in the selection. One very important thing to keep in mind is that just because a funeral home has picked up your loved ones body, and taken it to their facility, doesn't mean that you have chosen a funeral home. You can move the body at ANY TIME. Don't feel stuck.

Ok, I've chosen a funeral home, now what?
Funerals are as diverse as people. It's up the family to take into consideration the persons life, interests and of course the wishes of the living. The Federal Funeral Law allows you to pay only for services that you use. So, if you want to have a funeral at someone's home, you shouldn't have to pay for a chapel at the mortuary etc. When buying services, you might benefit by choosing individual services V. S. buying a package. An honest funeral director (Yes , they are out there) will explain ALL options to you.

Slow Down, some things can wait
When meeting with funeral home, not all decisions have to be made at the moment. Most times, there is still time to shop for a casket, and even a burial vault. Urns or headstones are most commonly purchased a month or so later.

Funerals are Expensive
Consider this - it costs an average of $4000.00 to be born, and an average of $8000.00 to die. Clearly, funerals are expensive! By doing some homework, you should be able to save at least 50% on a casket, and about 25-50% on the overall funeral. A funeral is the third most expensive purchase you will make in a lifetime, and costs continue to soar. Give us a call, we will arm you with information.
